How to calculate asphalt requirements

Our calculator uses standard asphalt density of 145 lbs/ft³ (2322 kg/m³). The calculation process is:

  1. Estimate the volume of asphalt needed using width, length, and depth
  2. Multiply the volume by the density to get the weight
  3. Multiply the weight by price per ton to get the cost

We recommend purchasing 5-6% more asphalt than estimated to account for waste and application process.

About Asphalt

Asphalt is a black, sticky, and highly viscous form of petroleum used for road surfaces, driveways, parking lots, and more. It's durable, provides good traction, and is water-resistant.

Common Types

  • Hot Mix: Most common, all traffic
  • Warm Mix: Lower temp applications
  • Porous: Permeable for drainage

Key Properties

  • Water resistant and durable
  • Provides high traction
  • Low light reflectivity
  • 20+ year lifespan
